Cardiovascular events according to blood pressure thresholds: Analysis using pseudo-values
Until 2017, European and American societies of cardiology had the same recommendations for treatment of high blood pressure. However, in 2017 the American recommendations were changed by lowering the thresholds for treatment indication. We study the 10-year risk of cardiovascular events in relation to these thresholds by re-analysing data from the Copenhagen City Heart Study. The analyses are based on defining an outcome variable based on pseudo-values and they include multiple imputation, estimating equations, use of the g-formula, and bootstrapping. We conclude that the European guidelines point to reasonable thresholds for treatment of high blood pressure. The talk is based on the paper by Joseph et al. (2024, Blood Pressure).
